The short of it…
My given name is Merced Cantu III, but my family and friends have always called me Sonny. It’s also best at this point to introduce my wife, Michelle. This marriage is doing something unusual. It’s not just surviving, but thriving as a business partnership, which is pretty unique in the photography world. I am the photographer, photo editor, Photoshop designer, and webmaster. Michelle runs everything behind the scene at SCP from scheduling your sessions, location hunting, and blog posting.
We started a youth sports action photography business, Gametime Photography, in 2005. These ventures always seem to take on a life of their own. Families continued to ask if we also have children, family, and senior portrait sessions. Ok, starting in 2009, yes we do!

I am a self taught photographer and techie. So what separates me from the next guy with a camera? I have a need to be different. Not outrageously different, but just a little off center. I think it’s a good practice and it shows in our photography. We do what we have to for a shot. It’s not uncommon for me to leave your session with grass stains on my knees, so you will probably meet us for the first time in a pair of jeans and t-shirt. That’s why they invented washing machines. When you’re with us, please leave the ‘in a hurry’ thoughts at home. Enjoy this time with your family in front of the camera.
Sometimes, we’re surprised by the final composition! We combine different elements to create pieces of art not just pictures. How do we accomplish this? Atmosphere and technique.
We want the atmosphere of your session to be fun and comfortable. One way I keep the mood casual is by telling jokes and acting silly, especially around the little ones. We understand life with young children because we have boy/girl twins (born in May 2004) and a younger daughter (born in Feb 2007) that are always full of energy!
My technique starts with finding interesting angles to make your photographs one-of-a-kind. We use natural light and flash to our advantage to create ambiance. Photography is all about capturing a moment in time. I strive to capture natural expression and real emotion. Expect to come away from this experience with heirloom quality prints.
We are in NW Houston, TX and serve the metro-Houston area. We also cover The Woodlands, Spring, Cypress, Tomball, Magnolia, West University, and the Galleria. I am happy to travel to your home or favorite location to shoot! This is especially helpful for parents of newborns and small children who may be more comfortable in their own environment. SCP is not afraid of travel should you desire services outside the areas mentioned above. Please contact us about destination fees.
